OMG! JUNE???

Holy cow, where did the year go? Comic-con is literally two months away-- probably less (too lazy to check a calendar)-- and I'm not ready! I mean, I know where I'm staying and the 4-day pass was paid for long ago-- but MONEY! DOG! FOOD! MONEY!

Since most of the Mirage Crew (sans P.L.) will be there, I want to be sure I have some money to buy some stuff directly from them. I plan on having those who contributed to the 1992 Portfolio to sign my pics, but I still need to get some things. I've never carried a sketchbook with me in all the years I've been there, but perhaps this year I shall.

I watched the wedding episode yesterday (second time I've seen it, first time on t.v.)-- I'm still thinking the entire thing was rushed. It should have taken two to three episodes to tell that story. Back in the 2K3 day it would have played out as at LEAST a three-story arc. I mean, why bring back everyone and their brother, (not to mention give all their voice actors screen credit) when you don't get to hear them all-- indeed, watching it again I STILL don't see any Karai fighting action, and she at least should have made more of an impression other than being arm candy for Chaplin.

Ah for the good old days....

Yes, today is Stan Sakai's birthday! Stan, for those of you who are NOT in the know, is the creator/artist/writer of "Usagi Yojimbo"!

I knew this comic before I got into the TMNT, btw.

Stan is celebrating his 55th this year-- and his comic is celebrating its 25th anniversary, just like TMNT is! Small world, isn't it?

Anyway, you should check out Usagi-san (who has made several cross-over appearances with the Turtles over the years). Indeed, Stan wrote a Three-part one himself-- I just LOVE how he does the guys! In fact, my icon at Stan's site is one of my first successful manips-- half Leo, half Usagi, all Stan.

And so, if you like Turtles that are ninja, you should check out Samurai Rabbits! Go ahead, stop by his site, join up, check it out-- Usagi Yojimbo is da MAN-- er, RABBIT!

Well! Coming up-- Comic-Con! I got all excited when I got my latest mag. from them that listed Peter Laird as one of the residents of Artists Alley!

I was all WOOHOO-- then he posted at his blog that it was a mistake, he had no intention of attending.

Well, at least the Mirage Crew will be there!

OR: My Adventures in Trying to Get Kevin Eastman's Autograph on Something

Well-- I decided that by golly I was going to NOT be a responsible adult today and go have an Adventure. The Golden Apple was hosting Kevin Eastman at their Melrose store, so I thought "Why not go pick up the free reprint of Ninja Turtles and get his autograph on it?"

I decided to wear my green "Ninja" shirt (the one where he's tying on his mask)-- then I wore a jacket because it was "chilly" (and in case I decided that I would look out of place in a Ninja Turtles shirt-- I shouldn't have worried).

I headed for the store, hitting every damn red light between my place and there. As I finally got close, I could see a LINE outside the store-- and I was in the wrong lane as it was on the left and I was on the right.

Pink's Hot Dogs is on the opposite corner-- I briefly entertained the idea of getting the autograph, then standing in line THERE for one of their famous hot dogs-- but I rethought that idea when I realized I'd not brought any change for the parking meters.

It was now 11:30-- he was signing from 11 until 1. I swear, I cruised around for a HALF-HOUR trying to find a place to park! I even stopped at a Winchel's to get "change"-- ended up with thirty-five cents and what I thought was a plain cake donut and a "small" diet Coke (a gallon-- it was sale day). Kept cruising past the store, as the line grew longer and longer... JUST when I decided to give up, I got a parking space right around the corner and managed with my piddly change to add to minutes already on it and get 59!

It was now about 12:07, and I would have barely an hour to achieve my goal.

When I got to the front, I found out why the line was so long: William Shatner was there as well. The LINE was for him. Don't get me wrong, there was also a line for Eastman and two others, and after buying two comics and a "vintage" Splinter I got in it. And it was SLOW!!! I am not kidding, I thought we'd never move! By the time I'd gotten in it, it was twenty after twelve, and at this rate I'd not get my autograph.

A store employee came at one point and warned us that "this is the cut-off" once it hit 1:00 pm. Naturally I was four people behind that cut-off.

I worried about getting a parking ticket-- I knew I had little time to spare past one-- then I found out there was "free parking" out back. *kicked self repeatedly* Oh well.

Standing there taking pics I realized I "knew" the guy a few people ahead. Took his pic, naturally. At one point he even said "hi" to me (at least he SEEMED to be looking at me-- I said hi back and told him I was trying to get a good shot of him for Mikey's).

Man, it took FOREVER-- but as it crept closer and closer to 1, we got to the corner where we could see around. There was the author of Radical, and Kevin E., and the guy from Kindergoth (only I didn't know THAT until I got to his end)-- and in the far corner was a crowd with cameras and such because Shatner was there giving interviews. The guys were trying to finish up their own autographs, and at one point Kevin said something about working up front (because THEIR space was going to W.S.).

FINALLY I got up close, and was fangirl enough to grin even wider when Kevin gave me a second look and said "Oh, HI!" like he recognized me. Plus he liked the shirt. I wanted to talk more, but we had noticed earlier how people kept standing there and (in the words of the anxious mother in front of me) "telling him their life stories!"-- so I thanked him and moved on.

All in all a rather successful adventure, though it was full of stress at some points. And now.... Pictures! (note: re: Hulk and Spiderman-- WHO runs like that? And Spidey needs to drink more milk, he's got rickets)

Anyway, for SOME reason I got this idea while reading something totally unrelated regarding the NECA stuff-- primarily about the fear among the collectors-- and I mean SERIOUS TOY COLLECTORS-- that the Mousers would not be that articulate.

Don't ask me how this came from that, I've still not figured it out.

Off-Turtle-Topic

Skeeve and Aahz are lost to me forever now.

Robert Asprin died the other day. I found out while at usagiyojimbo.com, and it floored me.

Robert A. was the reason I went to my first-ever San Diego Comic-Con. That was way back in the day (1987 I believe) when it was still at the old convention center, and you could actually buy comics there, and panels were not in rooms that could seat 100,000. He didn't attend, I found out, because his father had had a heart attack. I ended up, however, meeting the likes of Stan Sakai, Sergio Aragones, Larry Marder, Joshua Quagmire, Donna Barr, Barb Rausch...

The NEXT year he was able to attend, and I got to speak with him between panels one on one with NO crowds or "security people" or such that surround authors like him nowadays. It was the coolest thing in the world.

I loved the Myth Series, as well as the first few Phule stories, and was sad when he had stopped writing for a time. I knew little of his problems. I had a bit of trouble reading the co-authored stories, but I was glad to see that he'd started writing again (and now I understand the reason for having a co-author).

He was supposed to be attending a convention when he died.

Gad, it's been a smidge over 20 years since I first met him.

I MUST make more effort to post in this blog! So much is going on...

Got my NECA turtles finally... Seriously, I'm having too much fun with them!

Anyway, by now you will have seen that 4kids.tv/show/tmnt/blog has begun posting "secret" as well as "final" designs for the new season.

These (apart from Donatello) are the same ones that Steven Murphy-- from MIRAGE-- got his ass reamed over posting a few months earlier because they were "NOT final"-- which is bull as they're being shown at this so-called "blog" as being the final product.

Leo still looks dumb. Don looks better, but they're still in need of someone buffing down those sharp pointy corners!

The reason I liked the 2k3 series was because of the style and detail and such-- NOW we're back to flat cartoony stuff like Fast Forward.

The only redeeming feature atm is the fact that the entire voice cast is back. Here's hoping it all goes well.

I am going to have even more of a problem adjusting to the new style of THIS incarnation than I did to the Fast Forward stuff-- but at least IT tried to keep some of the visuals consistent with the 2K3 series.

The Lost Episodes

WELL!

It's so nice to finally get to see these episodes on tv! I had posted this really cool discussion of "The Lap of the Gods", writing it in order to NOT give anything away to anyone who had not seen the other eps-- and then Mikey's had an unlooked-for melt-down-- such a shame, as Mike had just renovated the forums and they were lookin' WOOHOO!

Anyways, it was cool to see "Membership Drive"-- especially as a later "Fast Forward" episode showed Turtle Titan in his new costume (which appears at the end of this ep).

I can't wait for these to FINALLY be released on DVD HERE in the States. I still do not understand the thinking of 4Kids in this entire matter, but I do feel that Peter Laird and co. deserve a big Thanks for going ahead and having at least these thirteen episodes made. It's easy to get mad at him for certain things, but I do think that his having these made shows he does care about the guys.

Then again, I've always been a "the glass is half-full" sort of person.

The Lost Season

WELL, 4Kids is finally going to show what we lovingly refer to as "The Lost Season", but they advertise as "The Lost Episodes"-- and we all know the eps. weren't lost, they were supressed!!!

I am so glad that I am finally going to get to see them on the TV and not on YouTube. It will be quite different. *nods*

Ah, Turtles-- HOW I have missed the incarnation that pulled me back into the fandom!

OR the laws of SOMETHING-- I'm watching "The Shredder Strikes Back" part one-- and how in the freaking world can HUN keep up with NOT only the rest of the thin Foot, but Leo as well? I mean he must weight like 500 pounds! HOW can something that freaking big move that fast???

Welcome to Senseiluv. This blog will be a place for me to ~~pontificate~~ muse about Splinter in particular, TMNT in general, and Life if I feel like it.

I shall be the only member I think, so it's all good-- no flamewars will start up unless I have a disagreement with myself, or unless some of my online friends, out of sheer pity, will once in a while throw me a bone so to speak and post a comment as if they were really interested.
